A 30-year-old man has been accused of raping a 10-month-old girl in Gujarat’s Bharuch area on Sunday, according to local police. The suspect has been arrested.
NDTV reports that the incident occurred in Panoli village when the accused, identified as Deepak Kumar Lalbabu Singh, allegedly abducted the child while she was playing in her yard. Deputy Superintendent of Police Kushal Oza stated that Singh took the child to his home and sexually assaulted her.
The child’s mother, who works at a restaurant, knew the accused, who often took the child to his home to play. On Sunday, while the child was playing in the yard, Singh allegedly abducted her and raped her nearby.
The child’s grandmother heard her cries and found her in a bloodied state. The child was severely injured. The incident sparked outrage among locals, who apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police.
The child’s mother rushed home upon hearing the news and took her to Bharuch Civil Hospital, where her condition worsened due to severe injuries.
The police have arrested the suspect and filed a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is ongoing, and medical examinations of both the victim and the accused have been conducted.
