The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been raised again, now costing Tk 121.32 per kg, up from Tk 118.44, starting October.
The new prices will take effect today (October 2, 2024) at 6 pm.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the change, saying a 12 kg LPG cylinder will now cost around Tk 1456, which is about Tk 35 more than before. It was previously priced at Tk 1421 (including VAT).
Prices for other LPG cylinder sizes, ranging from 5.5 kg to 45 kg, will also increase, according to BERC during a press conference in Dhaka.
BERC officials explained that LPG prices have slightly risen because Bangladeshi suppliers import most of their LPG from the Middle East, based on Saudi pricing.
In addition, the price of “auto gas” (LPG used for vehicles) will also increase to Tk 66.84 per litre from Tk 65.26.
The price of LPG sold by the state-owned LP Gas Company will not change since it is locally produced and has a small share of the market, less than 5 percent.
The highest recorded price for a 12 kg LPG cylinder was Tk 1,498 in February of last year.
