12,000 Bhori Gold of Samabaya Bank Missing

Local Government Advisor A.F. Hasan Arif said that 12,000 bhori of gold is missing from Samabaya Bank. He shared this information during a meeting with journalists at the 57th Annual Planning Conference of the Comilla Rural Development Academy Board on Sunday (September 29).

Arif explained that the “Samabaya” sector is struggling because members only want to join committees, but aren’t focused on improving things.

He added that 12,000 bhori of gold from the Samabaya Bank is unaccounted for, and some former members are illegally using the bank’s property. Legal action is being taken to address the issue.

The meeting was led by Mosammat Shahanara Khatun, Secretary of the Rural Development and Co-operatives Division. Special guests included PPRC Chairman Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, local government expert Professor Dr. Tofail Ahmed, and BARD Director General Saif Uddin Ahmed.

During the meeting, speakers talked about BARD’s recent research and activities in rural development and co-operatives, and the special guests offered solutions to the ongoing problems.
