As in previous years, hilsa has been exported to India for the upcoming Durga Puja. This Thursday afternoon, the first shipment of 54 metric tons of hilsa was sent by 10 exporters. The price per kilogram of hilsa is $10, or 1,180 Bangladeshi Taka.
A total of 49 companies in the country have received approval to export hilsa. The Ministry has stated that the export must be completed by October 13.
Benapole Customs Joint Commissioner Safayet Hossain mentioned that the Bangladeshi exporter is Sajjad Enterprise and the Indian importer is RJ International. Bangladesh Logistic is the C&F agent for clearing the hilsa from the port.
It is known that on September 9, the Fish Importers Association (FIA) of Kolkata requested Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain to consider allowing hilsa exports from Bangladesh for Durga Puja. Subsequently, the government granted special permission to export 2,420 tons to India, starting from Thursday.
General traders believe that hilsa exports will play a significant role in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

Port officials mentioned that hilsa exports were halted in 2012 but later resumed. However, special consideration is given only for Durga Puja. Last year, the export permit was for 3,900 metric tons. This year, the permit is for 2,420 metric tons.
Benapole Port Deputy Director Sajib Nazir stated that after completing the paperwork, assistance will be provided to ensure the hilsa-laden trucks can quickly enter India.
