In Mohammadpur, Magura, police dug up the body of a student named Ahad Biswas, 17, for an autopsy 57 days after he was killed during a student protest against discrimination.
The body was taken from Purba Narayanpur cemetery on Monday and sent to Magura Sadar Hospital for the autopsy, after which it will be reburied.
The local police confirmed this on Tuesday, October 1.
Another student, Suman Sheikh, 18, who was also killed in the same protest, had his body buried, but his family refused to allow it to be exhumed on Monday.
Locals said that Ahad and Suman were shot near Mohammadpur police station on August 4 while protesting.
Ahad’s father filed a murder case against two named individuals and others, while Suman’s father filed a case against 130 people, mostly linked to the Awami League. Both students were buried without an autopsy.
On Monday, when officials tried to exhume Suman’s body, his father refused, saying it would be disrespectful. As a result, the officials left without exhuming the body.
The police said that the bodies were exhumed following court orders, but only Ahad’s body was taken out since Suman’s father objected.
