In the first 28 days of September, remittances sent through banking channels have reached $2.11 billion. This amounts to about Tk 25,347 crore in Bangladeshi currency. On average, expatriates have sent around $75.5 million per day this month.
The updated report from Bangladesh Bank, released on Sunday (September 29), highlights these figures.
The report shows that the remittance received in the first 28 days of this September is about $780 million more than the total received in the entire month of September last year. In September 2022, remittances amounted to $1.33 billion, while in 2021, the figure was $1.54 billion.
According to Bangladesh Bank, during the first 28 days of this month, $586.5 million came through state-owned banks, $92.6 million through a specialized bank, $1.43 billion through private banks, and $5.3 million through foreign banks.
Although remittances dropped slightly during July and early August due to ongoing student protests, the inflow began to recover from the second week of September after the interim government took over. In July, remittances averaged $63.7 million per day.
