BUET students can no longer join or participate in any political organizations

BUET has reaffirmed its strict stance on student politics, extending the existing ban and making it clear that no student will be permitted to engage with political organizations.

This decision, announced in a press release yesterday, comes as part of broader efforts to uphold academic standards and ensure a politically neutral campus.

The move follows the 503rd emergency meeting of the Academic Council, where university authorities resolved to curb all forms of political involvement among students.

“No student of this university can be affiliated with any political party or external organization, except for university-approved clubs or societies,” the statement read. “Violations of this rule will result in disciplinary action, as outlined in the university ordinance.”

Explaining the rationale behind the extension, BUET Registrar Professor Forkan Uddin said the decision is essential for maintaining the quality of education, ensuring merit-based evaluations, and boosting the university’s international reputation.

The prohibition aligns with efforts to create a more focused and academically driven environment on campus, free from the distractions of political activities.

Professor Al Amin Siddiqui, Director of the Department of Student Welfare (DSW), elaborated further, mentioning that the regulation has long been part of BUET’s disciplinary framework. Under Section 16 of the BUET Ordinance, students previously required DSW approval for political engagement. However, this renewed policy enforces the rule universally across the student body, leaving no room for exceptions.

The announcement marks a clear signal from BUET’s administration: student politics will remain off-limits, with the university prioritizing academic integrity and discipline above all else.
