Chinese Ambassador Expresses Interest in Establishing Seafood Processing Factories in Bangladesh
On October 2, 2024, the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, expressed China’s interest in investing in seafood processing factories in the country. He highlighted that private investors from China are keen to set up facilities for processing marine fish, aiming to export them to China.
The ambassador made these remarks during a courtesy meeting with Farida Akhter, an advisor at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, in his office.
During the discussion, Ambassador Yao Wen also showed interest in importing a variety of products from Bangladesh, including marine fish, shrimp, crabs, hilsa fish, jute, jute products, and mangoes. He emphasized that there is a significant demand for these products in the Chinese market, presenting a lucrative opportunity for Bangladesh to enhance its exports.
Both parties agreed to work collaboratively on matters of mutual interest during the meeting. The discussion was attended by various officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, including Secretary Saeed Mahmud Belal Haider, Additional Secretary ATM Mustafa Kamal, and Additional Secretary Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain, along with commercial counselors and other embassy staff.
