China Wants to Set Up a Solar Panel Factory in Bangladesh

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed that Chinese solar panel manufacturers are keen to invest in Bangladesh, aiming to enhance strategic bilateral relations through strengthened commercial and economic ties.

He made this remark during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 25.

Following the meeting, Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that Chinese investment in solar panel production would be a significant milestone, creating numerous jobs and positioning Bangladesh as a major solar panel exporter.

He also noted China’s desire to deepen its “comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership” with Bangladesh.

Wang Yi congratulated Professor Yunus, calling him an “old friend of the Chinese people,” and expressed confidence in his ability to meet the country’s expectations.

He emphasized that China would take Yunus’s proposal for Chinese manufacturers to establish solar power plants in Bangladesh seriously and encourage further cooperation between companies from both nations.

Wang Yi also mentioned that China would provide zero-tariff benefits on products from least-developed countries and welcome more Bangladeshi students.

In response, Professor Yunus acknowledged China’s efforts to alleviate poverty and urged Chinese solar companies to invest significantly in Bangladesh, which would also open access to markets in wealthy nations.

He called for other manufacturers to relocate their factories to Bangladesh, highlighting the strong relationship and the potential for increased technological cooperation between the two countries.
