Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTC) reported a significant surge in ridership and revenue for the first 18 days of September. According to Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf, the metro rail system transported a total of 4,909,049 passengers during this period, generating a revenue of 206,703,591 taka.
The DMTC official revealed this data at a press conference held at the company’s headquarters on Thursday afternoon. He highlighted that despite two Fridays being non-operational days within this timeframe, the metro system achieved these impressive figures.
However, a technical glitch on Wednesday led to a prolonged suspension of metro rail services, resulting in a revenue loss of approximately 10 million taka. Rouf mentioned that the daily revenue on that particular day was a mere 5,491,140 taka.
The highest ridership was recorded on September 12, with 343,892 passengers utilizing the metro service. This day also marked the highest daily revenue of 14,657,566 taka. On average, the metro is transporting around 300,000 passengers daily.
