Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor, is currently in the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). On Wednesday, during his speech at the “Clinton Global Initiative Leaders Stage” event in New York, Dr. Yunus invited his special assistant, Mahfuz Alam, and two others onto the stage to acknowledge their roles in the movement. However, controversy arose regarding one of the individuals, prompting Mahfuz Alam to address the issue on social media.
On Wednesday night, Mahfuz Alam posted a status on his Facebook wall. Prior to this, allegations surfaced that Jahin Rohan Rajin, who joined the CGI event with Dr. Yunus, is from an Awami League family and his involvement in the movement was questioned. Investigative journalist Julkar Nain Sayer Khan from Al Jazeera also posted about him, highlighting his political affiliations.
In his status, Mahfuz Alam stated that the individual in question was an infiltrator and a dishonest person, suggesting that his presence was part of a sabotage effort. Mahfuz explained that the individual had joined the CGI event on his own accord, without the knowledge or consent of the delegates, and had not communicated with any of them.
Mahfuz shared a screenshot from his Facebook post, explaining that when Dr. Yunus called them to the stage, the individual rushed ahead of them. Despite Mahfuz’s suspicions, he was unable to prevent the individual from going on stage. He expressed his helplessness in front of world leaders and dignitaries, describing the incident as a premeditated act of sabotage by a fascist group.
Mahfuz apologized to the leaders, coordinators, and fighters of the movement for failing to prevent the infiltration. He assured that they would be extremely cautious in representing the movement in the future and would hold these infiltrators and other participants from the August 5 movement accountable.
