Michal Krejza, head of cooperation for the EU delegation, expressed optimism that online tax return submissions in Bangladesh could increase from 0.5 million to 1.5 million this year.
Speaking at the launch of the new e-Return Service Centre at NBR Bhaban in Agargaon, he highlighted the EU’s funding and support for the center, which aims to simplify the tax return process for taxpayers.
Krejza noted that last year’s e-return submissions were around half a million, a low figure for a large country like Bangladesh, but he expects this number to rise significantly this year.
The new Service Centre, operated by trained NBR officials and funded by the EU’s Public Financial Management Programme, is part of NBR’s mission to facilitate easier tax return submissions.
Krejza praised the NBR Chairman’s reform ideas, emphasizing the importance of these reforms for Bangladesh’s development. He also mentioned that the EU has been financing the center for two to three years and is pleased with its relocation to the new NBR building, which enhances its operational efficiency.
The e-Return website offers detailed help, a user manual, and FAQs. For assistance, taxpayers can contact the service center at 09643717171 on weekdays from 09:00-17:00 or use the ticketing function on the e-Return system’s website (https://ticket.etaxnbr.gov.bd/).
