Former State Minister for Water Resources, Colonel (Retd.) Zahid Faruk Shamim, who served as a Member of Parliament for the Barishal-5 constituency, has been detained. He was apprehended by a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) team on Sunday evening (September 22) in Baridhara, Dhaka.
RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director, Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous, confirmed the arrest, stating that Shamim faces multiple murder charges and will be formally charged in these cases. The arrest was based on specific intelligence, and he will be handed over to the Detective Branch.
Zahid Faruk was re-elected in the 12th National Parliamentary Election and was appointed as the State Minister for Water Resources, a position he had previously held.
