Govt will Sell Essentials at Low Prices in Industrial Zones from Oct 1

The interim government will start selling basic goods at fair prices in industrial areas through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) from October 1, according to Labour and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Sunday.

At an event held by the Labour Welfare Foundation, he mentioned that the goal is to help workers who are struggling with high inflation.

This decision came after talks between the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Labour Ministry.

The BGMEA had requested the government to sell essential goods at lower prices to reduce the ongoing labor protests in areas like Ashulia, Tongi, Bypile, and parts of Gazipur, where workers are demanding higher wages and benefits to keep up with the rising cost of living.

Labour Ministry Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman told UNB that the government aims to gradually expand this initiative to about 4 million workers across the country.
