Health Ministry Announces List of 708 Killed in the Protests

The government has reported that 708 people were killed in the student-public uprising. The list of the deceased has been published on the websites of the Ministry of Health and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). If any names are missing from the list, the public is requested to report it.

This information was provided in a public notice signed by Umm Habiba, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on Tuesday, September 24.

The notice states that the draft list of martyrs from the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August 2024, collected from various government and private hospitals and district levels, has been published on the websites of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the DGHS. The list will be open to the public until October 6 for verification and correction. Family members or representatives of the martyrs are requested to verify, correct, or complete the names, addresses, and other relevant information published in the list.

The notice further states that if anyone has any opinions, suggestions, or new information regarding the published list, they are requested to inform the hospital where the service was received or the nearest government hospital. The following steps should be taken to correct the information in the published list:

  1. Family members or representatives of the martyrs must register with their National ID (NID)/birth certificate and mobile number.
  2. After registration, download and print the information of the martyr.
  3. Fill in the missing information on the printed paper.
  4. Take the completed information to the hospital where the service was received or the nearest government hospital, where the institution will assist in correcting the information.
  5. The responsible person at the institution will update the information online after receiving the completed form from the family member or representative.
  6. Verify the corrected information by accessing the website again.
