India Targets $350 Billion in Textiles by 2030

India aims to generate 4.5-6 crore jobs in the textile sector by 2030, expanding the market size from $165 billion to $350 billion, according to Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Singh highlighted a 100-day roadmap that includes attracting investments to create these jobs.

He mentioned that the seven approved integrated mega textile parks will attract Rs 70,000 crore in investment and generate 21 lakh jobs once fully operational.

The minister also noted the potential for silk cultivation, which currently supports around one crore people and could increase production to 50,000 tonnes in the long term.

He dismissed concerns about competition from Vietnam and Bangladesh, stating that India’s textile industry faces no significant challenges from these countries.

Singh emphasized the growth potential for technical textiles, setting an export target of $10 billion by 2030. He also mentioned that one crore artisans are engaged in the handloom and handicraft sectors, with various government initiatives aimed at boosting these areas.

On September 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 1,000-acre integrated textile park in Amravati, Maharashtra, to make India a global hub for textile manufacturing and exports, attracting large-scale investments and promoting innovation and job creation.
