South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh, Park Young-sik, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Bangladesh.
He emphasized Korea’s readiness to be a key partner in Dhaka’s economic development, particularly in sectors like the RMG industry, and called for an improved business environment to attract more foreign investment.
During a meeting with the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) at the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) near Chattogram, Park highlighted the importance of a stable, business-friendly environment to draw more investment.
He noted that the Korean Embassy is eager to engage with the interim government on this issue.
Park also praised Bangladesh’s growth potential, citing its steady annual economic growth rate of over 5% for the past 20 years. He expressed optimism that Bangladesh’s graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2026 will attract crucial foreign investment for sustainable development.
The ambassador emphasized the significance of the ongoing Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) talks, which aim to enhance bilateral trade and investment.
He also mentioned ongoing projects funded through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund and soft loans, which are expected to support Bangladesh’s infrastructure development.
Park noted that Korean companies prioritize timely project completion and do not inflate costs. He highlighted opportunities for collaboration in new sectors such as ICT, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, and the blue economy, where Korean technology and Bangladeshi businesses can thrive together.
KEPZ President Jahangir Saadat and DCAB President Nurul Islam Hasib also discussed the growing economic ties between the two countries.
