Lady Gaga has revealed a 13-track album titled “Harlequin” to accompany her new film, Joker: Folie à Deux. After teasing the news on social media, she announced that the album will be released on September 27.
The album will feature a mix of covers from the film, such as “Get Happy” and “Oh, When the Saints,” along with new songs. Gaga also mentioned that the first single from her seventh studio album will be released in October, with the full album coming out in February.
Billboards had hinted at the album with the number 6.5. In the film, Gaga plays Harleen Quinzel alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Gaga shared that she wrote a waltz for the movie and worked with live piano player Alex Smith. She described her character as an adult woman who sings like a little girl, adding an interesting layer of immaturity.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to mixed reviews. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw found it as laborious as the original but noted it was an improvement.
The original Joker film won two Oscars and grossed over $1 billion worldwide. The sequel is expected to open with $70 million, compared to the original’s $96 million, and currently holds a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, slightly lower than the original’s 69%.
Gaga recently topped the Billboard 200 with her duet “Die With A Smile” featuring Bruno Mars and participated in the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
Joker: Folie à Deux is Gaga’s latest film role, following A Star is Born and House of Gucci. She has also appeared in American Horror Story on television.
