The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced that the Mirpur-10 station of the metro rail could begin operations this October.
According to DMTCL sources, the station was heavily damaged during attacks by vandals amid the anti-discrimination student protests. Key equipment such as the control room, display screens, cameras, TVMs (Ticket Vending Machines), and passenger gates were all severely affected. Since the equipment was specifically designed and manufactured by the original supplier, it could not be easily replaced by parts from other companies.
To address this, DMTCL has decided to transfer equipment from stations with fewer passengers and bring in some parts from their training center. This temporary arrangement will reduce costs and allow the station to open quickly for public use.
Mohammad Abdur Rauf, Acting Managing Director of DMTCL, said, “There are directives from the Road Adviser to open the Mirpur-10 station as soon as possible. Work is currently ongoing, and we are trying to make the station operational at minimal cost so that passengers can use it soon.”
It’s worth noting that during the quota reform protests on July 18, a police box at the Mirpur-10 roundabout was set on fire, and metro rail services were suspended at 5 PM that day. While most stations were reopened on August 25, the Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations remained closed. Kazipara station was finally reopened on September 20.
