Mominul Haque was once compared to “Bangladesh’s Bradman” because of his reliable batting. He gained this reputation by scoring 50 runs in 11 straight innings, making him a key player in Bangladesh’s Test cricket team. However, his performance eventually declined.
In May 2022, Mominul stepped down as Test captain, choosing to focus solely on his batting. At that time, he was struggling and couldn’t play at his best.
But Mominul found his form again during a Test against India at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium. He scored a century in the first innings, while no other Bangladeshi player scored more than 31 runs.
Mominul, batting at his usual number three position, reached 100 runs in 172 balls, hitting 16 fours and one six. It was his 13th Test century, the most by any Bangladeshi batsman.
He almost missed the century when, at 95, he edged a ball that Virat Kohli dropped at slip. Soon after, he reached 100 with a sweep shot. This was his first century in 15 months, with his last one being in June 2023 against Afghanistan.
Mominul now has 4,258 runs in 65 Tests. He holds the record for the most centuries by a Bangladeshi batsman, followed by Mushfiqur Rahim with 11 and Tamim Iqbal with 10. Mushfiqur is Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer in Tests, with 5,924 runs, while Mominul ranks fourth.
