Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, speaking on September 26, emphasized the need for US partnership in Bangladesh’s new journey. He stated they are committed to enhancing the business environment through various reforms.
At a business luncheon in New York, Prof Yunus expressed his openness to suggestions for improving the investment climate and invited US collaboration.
Ambassador Atul Keshap, President of the US-Bangladesh Business Council, also addressed the event.
Prof Yunus highlighted that Bangladesh, with its 170 million people, is rapidly becoming one of the world’s top ten consumer markets and is strategically located near three billion people in South and Southeast Asia and China.
Acknowledging that no country is perfect, Prof Yunus sees an emerging Bangladesh dedicated to freedom and justice. He noted that the US has been a key economic and development partner for Bangladesh, being its top export destination and leading source of FDI, though the trade basket remains narrow.
He pointed out that investments are mainly in low-risk sectors like energy. With the US seeking supply-chain diversification under its Indo-Pacific Policy, Bangladesh is well-positioned to be a significant partner.
Prof Yunus assured that they will support US businesses in growing alongside Bangladeshi businesses to diversify the supply chain.
