On Friday, September 27, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, will deliver a speech at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
In his address at the General Assembly Hall at the UN Headquarters, Dr. Yunus is expected to highlight the backdrop of the anti-discrimination student movement and the revolutionary changes it brought about in Bangladesh.
He will discuss the circumstances under which he assumed the responsibility of leading the government and the reforms undertaken by the interim government to restructure the state apparatus in changing times. His speech is anticipated to cover various global and regional issues, including the Rohingya crisis, climate change, and the government’s inclusive economic development initiatives.
Dr. Yunus’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, told the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) that the Chief Advisor’s speech at the UNGA will be groundbreaking and is expected to capture the world’s attention. Notably, Nobel Laureate Dr. Yunus will deliver his speech in Bengali.
This year’s UNGA theme is “Leaving No One Behind: Working Together for Peace, Sustainable Development, and Advancing Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.”
Dr. Yunus arrived in New York on September 23 to attend the 79th session of the UNGA and other high-level events. During his visit, he has met with global leaders and heads of international organizations, including US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Dr. Yunus is scheduled to depart the United States for Dhaka at 9:30 PM local time today.
