A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official has confirmed that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will participate in the home Test series against South Africa, provided there are no injury or selection issues.
Following the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government, Shakib, who is also a member of parliament, has been accused of murder. He was abroad during the government’s fall and has not returned since. Currently, he is playing an away series against India after Pakistan.
Bangladesh will host a two-match Test series against South Africa after the India tour, and Shakib will need to return to the country to participate.
BCB’s cricket operations chief, Shahriar Nafees, stated that the chief advisor, legal advisor, and sports advisor have clearly communicated that Shakib will not face unjust harassment in the filed case. Nafees expressed confidence that Shakib should play in the home series if there are no injuries or selection issues.
However, Shakib’s participation in the second and final Test against India in Kanpur is uncertain due to a finger injury. In the first Test in Chennai, where Bangladesh lost by 280 runs, Shakib did not perform well with both bat and ball.
