Today, a lawsuit was filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and 69 others in connection with the death of garment worker Md Fazlu during the quota reform movement in Dhaka’s Kafrul area on August 5.
The case was lodged by Suraiya Akhter, Fazlu’s wife, at the Court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saiful Islam. After reviewing the complaint, the magistrate instructed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to conduct an inquiry and submit a report.
In her statement, Suraiya claimed that her husband was shot near the police lines at Mirpur-14 around 10:30 AM on August 5. He was quickly taken to Max Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Just yesterday, two additional cases were filed against Sheikh Hasina and others regarding the deaths of two minors — 14-year-old madrasa student Ahmed Abdullah at Jatrabari on July 18 and 12-year-old Rakib Hasan at Mohammadpur on July 19.
Sheikh Hasina now faces a total of 194 cases. These include 173 charges of murder, 11 for crimes against humanity and genocide, three for abduction, six for attempted murder, and one related to an attack on a BNP procession.
