Sonali Bank Officials and Ansar Members Slashed and Shot at During Robbery in Gazipur

In Gazipur, two bank officials and two Ansar members were attacked and robbed of 700,000 taka on Sunday. The incident took place in the Rothkhola area while the officials were on their way to deposit the money at the Gazipur Court Building branch of Sonali Bank.

According to bank officials, the robbery occurred when the bank’s in-charge, Atika Parveen Suravi, 39, cash officer Farzana Naznin Simu, 27, and the Ansar members, Al Amin, 30, and Raju Mia, 40, were traveling in an auto-rickshaw. They were attacked by a group of 12 armed men on six motorcycles around 5 PM.

The assailants stopped the auto-rickshaw, tried to grab the bag containing the cash, and when the victims resisted, they fired shots into the air and attacked them with knives. Witnesses reported that after the assault, the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident has left the local community in fear, with many shops in the area closing down. A nearby business owner, who wished to remain anonymous, described how the motorcyclists surrounded the auto-rickshaw and attacked the occupants before fleeing with the money.

Rayedul Islam, the investigating officer at Gazipur Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. Efforts are being made to arrest the robbers and recover the stolen money. Legal action is also being processed.
