Farida Akhtar, the Fisheries and Livestock Advisor assured that exporting hilsa will not lead to a price increase, as there is an ample supply in the country. She mentioned that the Ministry of Commerce, responding to a special request from India for Durga Puja, approved the export of hilsa. This decision was made independently by the Ministry of Commerce.

During a meeting at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Farida Akhtar reiterated that the export approval was granted due to India’s request and emphasized that the export would not necessarily raise prices. If prices do rise, measures will be taken to address the issue.

Hilsa has been exported to India for Durga Puja for several years, but there was uncertainty this time. On August 11, Farida Akhtar stated that hilsa would be exported only after meeting domestic demand. She assured that steps would be taken to ensure that the local population has access to hilsa and that prices remain stable.

Recently, the Ministry of Commerce approved the export of 3,000 tons of hilsa to India.
