A Bangladesh cricket supporter, known as Tiger Robi, was hospitalized on Friday after an alleged altercation at Green Park Stadium, where he claimed to have been assaulted by fellow spectators.
Robi, who was actively supporting his team from the C Block balcony, reported that he was struck on his lower abdomen and back, which left him struggling to breathe. Security personnel quickly intervened and rushed him to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Speaking to Sportstar, Robi recounted the incident, saying, “They hit me on my back and lower abdomen, and I could not breathe.” However, local authorities at the stadium provided a different account.
A police official stated that an officer had found Robi near the C Block entrance, visibly distressed and gasping for air. The police suggested that dehydration might have been the cause of his condition but said they would await the doctor’s assessment before drawing conclusions.
The incident occurred during the first day’s play of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh. Robi was waving the Bangladesh flag and chanting slogans in support of his team when a confrontation reportedly took place between him and some local fans.
Though security managed to de-escalate the situation, Robi later claimed that he was assaulted during the lunch break. Authorities have since stated they will review CCTV footage to investigate his allegations.
