Two Dead Bodies Recovered After Oil Tanker Fire at Chittagong Port

A fire broke out on an oil tanker named “Banglar Jyoti” at the Dolphin Jetty of Chittagong Port following an explosion, leading to the deaths of two individuals. One of the victims has been identified as Sourov Kumar Saha, who died from burn injuries. The identity of the second person is yet to be confirmed.

According to Chittagong Fire Service Assistant Director Muhammad Abdullah, the bodies were recovered after firefighters managed to control the blaze. The bodies are currently under the care of the Coast Guard and Navy for further identification.

The fire erupted on the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC)-owned oil tanker, which was anchored at the Dolphin Jetty near the Eastern Refinery in Patenga. The ship, responsible for transporting oil from large tankers in the sea to the jetty, had several crew members injured during the incident.

The fire was brought under control after two hours of effort by eight firefighting units. Naval forces and vessels from the Chittagong Port Authority were also deployed to assist in controlling the situation.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether or how much oil was onboard at the time of the fire. Omar Faruk, secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority, said that the fire is now under control.
