UN Ensures Support for Bangladesh’s LDC Transition

Rabab Fatima, the UN Under Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, met with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus in New York during the United Nations General Assembly.

She expressed her office’s full support for Bangladesh’s transition toward graduating from LDC status.

Fatima praised Bangladesh for its enduring support of the work of the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries and its strong commitment to LDC issues, noting that it was a privilege to meet the chief adviser.

They also discussed the implementation of the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA).

Fatima has held her position since August 2022, having been appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

She supports LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals and advancing their respective action plans agreed upon globally.

These nations collectively represent the 92 most vulnerable countries in the world. Lamiya Morshed, Principal Coordinator on SDGs Affairs (Senior Secretary), was among those present at the meeting.
